Eight Windsor Central High School seniors and two juniors, all members of Windsor FFA, have earned the New York State Seal of Civic Readiness.

Seniors Mason Miner, Keaton Rounds, Owen Hershowitz, Ava Platner, Ethan Mies, Chloe Toler, Talon Otis, Tristan Swingle, and juniors Claire Griffin and Andrew Bennett earned the distinction.

Many of the Windsor students who earned the seal focused on projects to fight hunger, including creating birthday cake mix packs, burst tomato packets, and stocking three food stands in lower-income areas in the district. They spent over 1,500 hours on these projects.

“The Seal of Civic Readiness, in my eyes, is a way for our students to really tackle student hunger, tackle community hunger, and make a difference,” said WCHS agriculture teacher Tina Miner-James.
“I did the Senior Knights Floral Club which brought in senior citizens from around the community to do a free, in-house floral class to get them out, socializing, and seeing what we do in school,” said Platner.

“It taught me how I can give back to my community. Part of my speech was about giving back to the community and how we can fight food insecurity. Just learning that and seeing the impact it made in my own community as well as other communities around us, it made me really happy to see myself making a difference like that,” said Griffin.

The seal is a formal recognition that a student has attained a high level of proficiency in terms of civic knowledge, civic skills, civic mindset, and civic experiences. The Seal of Civic Readiness is a distinction on a high school transcript and diploma.
