WCHS Students Take Career-Focused Tour of Binghamton University

Posted Date: 11/25/25 (02:03 PM)

Four groups of Windsor Central High School students toured Binghamton University on Friday, November 21st. The students are focusing on one of four fields of study: biomedical engineering, environmental science, performing arts, and finance/business.

Students with interest in the performing arts viewed Seussical, hosted by the Theatre Department, then joined members of the cast for lunch.

Biomedical Engineering students went to the Innovative Technologies Complex to meet faculty, Binghamton University students, and tour research labs. Environmental Science students met faculty, university students, and toured greenhouses and the nature preserve.
“There’s a lot of experiments to do outside on the campus with the biodiversity,” said WCHS sophomore Ava Mangino, who has an interest in studying chemistry. “I’ve had an interest (in Binghamton University), and today’s visit increased that interest.”

“The big takeaway was exposing them to all of the careers in biomedical engineering. It can be overwhelming. The staff and professors were crystal clear they fail in labs all the time. They regroup. You don’t have to be a 4.0 student. If you have a passion, pursue it,” said WCHS teacher Greg McKeon.

Finance/business students went to the School of Management building to meet faculty, university students, and tour the Zurack Trading Room.

“I go to learn a lot about the inner workings of the School of Management. I learned about campus life and what it’s like to go to school year,” said WCHS senior Regan Pangburn. “I never looked at the campus a lot. It’s actually more beautiful than I thought.”

In the afternoon, Windsor students took a guided tour of the university that included:

  • Overview of colleges within the University
  • Tour of Mock Dorm
  • Visiting notable campus locations (Union, University Underground, Library, and Lecture Hall)
  • Tour of Engineering Building
  • Student Q/A regarding campus life, programs, cost, and more.
The tour is in support of the district’s Future Ready Knights program, which features ten career pathways which students can pursue: agriculture, biomedical science, business & finance, computer science, career & technical education, building trades, education, engineering, fine arts, and human services.
