Windsor CSD Summer Program Update - July 31

Posted Date: 7/31/25 (2:50 PM)

Thursday marked the end of Windsor Strong Academy and Knight Lights for 2025.

Windsor Strong Academy students presented the newscasts they produced during the week. This was the latest in a camp full of engaging projects, including a cardboard boat race and cooking competition.

“This camp is about critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving. Being able to work together in teams is a skill they’ll need to have for the rest of their lives. To create future-ready learners, we work on developing those skills,” said Windsor Central Middle School associate principal Kelly Vavalle.
Knight Lights held its Water Celebration Day to finish camp. Children stepped inside a hot air balloon, toured a fire truck, and New York State Police car.  They also played on indoor and outdoor slides and a bounce house.

The camp has featured several activities to enhance literacy, numeracy, gross motor, and fine motor skills. There have also been science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) activities each day. The camp's goal is to provide fun and educational activities to students, give them enrichment opportunities to explore career pathways, and help them avoid the “summer slide” of eroding academic skills during the summer months.

A special thank you to Schoolhouse Creamery for donating the ice cream for Thursday’s event.

Golf, football, and soccer camps concluded on Thursday.

Golfers saw their camp cut short due to the rain on Thursday morning. They did spend the week learning golf etiquette and practicing driving, putting, and chipping. They also played in a 2-hole captain-and-crew tournament on Wednesday.

Football players learned Windsor’s passing tree routes, including ins, outs, posts, hitches, fades, and flags. They finished playing a seven-on-seven tournament.

Soccer campers spent the first half of the camp in the WCHS pool and the second half playing scrimmages, incorporating the skills they learned this week: soft touches, kicking with the proper foot position, moving off the ball, proper defending, and proper shooting technique.

Next week, two weeks of fine arts camps will begin, as well as the bowling and field hockey camps.
