Windsor CSD Summer Camp Recap - July 17

Posted Date: 7/17/25 (7:42 PM)

An armada of floating cardboard competing for supremacy on the seas highlighted Thursday at the Windsor CSD summer program.
Windsor Strong Academy held its annual cardboard boat race at the Windsor Central High School pool. Five teams of students spent the week designing and building their vessels and employed heightened security measures such as blocking windows and employing special door knocks for entry to keep the competition from spying.

The “Drivers Wanted” team won the competition, thanks to their strong design of a school bus and a solid finish in the pool.

Knight Lights campers enjoyed a presentation on blueberries by Cornell Cooperative Extension, tasting the difference between blueberries picked from a local farm on Wednesday vs. those grown in Florida and shipped to the grocery store.

Campers also had a STEM lesson in surface tension by trying to blow bubbles in different shapes. They tested hypotheses and repeated experiments to learn why they could and could not blow bubbles in different shapes.

Tennis, track, swim and dive, and volleyball camps concluded on Thursday.

Tennis campers split into groups of younger players and older players. Younger campers played in a double-elimination doubles tournament. Older campers competed in a double-elimination singles tournament.

Track athletes learned relays. They practiced handoffs and had a water relay. Runners would soak a sponge in one bucket and then run to a smaller bucket to empty it. The first relay team to fill the smaller bucket won.

Swimmers reviewed the freestyle and backstroke skills they learned this week. They also learned the kick for butterfly and breaststroke. Divers continued to work on their approaches, and some performed twist dives and front flips.

Volleyball players went on a scavenger hunt at the start of camp on Thursday. Then, they practiced skills and broke up into teams for a small tournament.

Sports camps next week will be baseball, softball, and lacrosse.
